The Village of Delta operates a Class III, 1.2 million gallon per day (MGD) microfiltration reverse osmosis integrated membrane water plant. The plant went into operation in September 2006. The 6.5 million dollar water plant replaced the 1931 water plant that had outlived its useful life. The water plant purifies water through the use of continuous microfiltration filters and reverse osmosis filters.
The continuous microfiltration filter units remove contaminants from the raw water. There are 192 of these filters at the water plant. The reverse osmosis (RO) filters adjust the hardness of the water until the product leaving the plant is of a high quality of water that one would find in bottled water. There are 96 RO filters. The water produced at this facility far exceeds the water quality of surrounding facilities.
The Village’s raw water supply comes from Bad Creek, a small stream that feeds into the Maumee River. Water from Bad creek is pumped into Reservoir #2, a 400 million gallon structure that was dedicated on April 28, 1985. Reservoir #1 is a 108 million gallon man made reservoir that is no longer used on a daily basis. The water held in the reservoir #1 is a reserve source of raw water.
